About Andy Small
Andy Small studied Fine Art at Bristol. He photographs dramatic close up portraits of natural objects particularly flowers and his work has become known for its graphic style and striking use of colour.
His Fine Art background meant he spent as much time painting as he did developing his photography and this has had a profound influence on his style. Andy's images are described as being "very painterly" in their appearance.

The natural world is a lifelong passion for Andy. Since he and his wife designed their first garden, flowers and plants have become the inspiration for his art. They now have a very prolific cottage garden which provides him with most of his subject matter.
"He is fascinated by the intricate structure and design found in nature and his photography celebrates this diverse but orderly world that sometimes goes unnoticed." Director, James Hockey Gallery.
Most of Andy's images are taken on Fuji Velvia transparency film using Contax cameras with Carl Zeiss lenses and are created "in camera" being mainly studio based. He also now uses Nikon digital cameras fitted with Zeiss lenses.
